What is appendicitis?
The appendix is a narrow, tube shaped pouch protruding from the large intestine. It is part of the gastrointestinal tract. Appendicitis occurs when the appendix becomes inflamed.
What are the symptoms of appendicitis?
Symptoms of appendicitis include low grade fever, nausea, vomiting and pain around the belly button which may later move to the lower right side of the abdomen.
What is the treatment of Appendicitis?
Appendicitis is usually treated with surgery to remove the appendix. This can be done through a small incision in your right lower abdomen (open surgery) or laparoscopic surgery (keyhole surgery) and antibiotics.

APPENDICITISIf untreated the appendix can rupture and cause an abscess or systemic infection. So, if you suspect that you have appendicitis you should urgently contact your doctor.
